ABS PGDM Orientation Program 2021: Day 4 – A day that saw The CSD Curtain Raiser and LEAD Lecture Conversation with Founder – GreenSole!

Asian Business School inaugurated its new batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) on Monday, 23rd August 2021. The inauguration kick-started a grand five-day Orientation Programme scheduled from Monday, 23rd August 2021 to Friday, 27th August 2021. However, in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and keeping in mind the social distancing norms, this programme was organized virtually to benefit the students who were about to begin a new phase in their academic life.

Day 4 of the ABS PGDM Orientation Program 2021 that was held on Thursday, 26th August 2021 saw a preliminary introduction of Asian Business School’s in-house Center for Skill Development (CSD) as a dedicated department set up to cater to the captive demands of the corporate in sync with the mindset of ABS that the students’ personality development is an integral part of holistic education.  To increase the relevance with future employment market including promotion of self-employment, a two-pronged initiative – Soft Skills & Employability Skills – has been made an integral part of skill development under CSD.

The session termed as “The CSD Curtain Raiser” delved upon the fact that skill development is no longer a matter of choice today and it is absolutely important to adapt, survive and succeed. We work in an era where dealing with ambiguity and disruptive trends are critical to success. While maintaining an academic awareness of one’s field, one has to review the career eco-system as well. Thus, adapting skills and attitude is now necessary to succeed in the years to come.

Keeping this aim in view, “The CSD Curtain Raiser” turned out to be a skill based workshop which was conducted by the Centre for Skill Development that attempted to unveil the students’ true potentials and capacities, and tried to acquaint them with the right KSA (Knowledge, Skill & Attitude) that the corporate today is looking at today.

The post-lunch session of Day 4 of the ABS PGDM Orientation Program 2021 was earmarked for a LEAD Lecture session by Mr. Shriyans Bhandari, Co-Founder, GreenSole that came out as a memorable presentation!

Mr. Shriyans Bhandari is an ardent marathon runner who ran in 85 long-distance races. He started as an athlete from Mumbai and ran hundreds of kilometers each year and in the process, he went through several pairs of sports shoes. He noticed wasted sneakers that had no future life, just increasing the pollution. This passion gave him a unique business idea of recycling the used shoes. In 2015, Mr. Shriyans and his friend Mr. Ramesh Dhami decided to recycle old footwear and founded GreenSole. He has donated lacs of pairs of slippers to poor children. His start-up GreenSole, recycles the used shoes and molds them into new slippers.

Offering the story of his journey to fame and recognition by way of a PPT presentation, Mr. Shriyans Bhandari beautifully recounted his struggles and achievements and said that he simply followed his passion and transformed his ideas into an entrepreneurial success. To quote his words, he said, “Just keep working hard … fame, money, etc. will follow it!” Answering a student’s question relating to fears about starting as an entrepreneur, Mr. Shriyans said, “Startup is not too risky. You should not be afraid about it. But, the earlier you start, it is better. Starting is really tough. But do get started. Do not worry too much. Do not plan too much. Start with a gut feeling and drill it within yourself that we have to succeed!”

The conclusion of this sweet and powerful LEAD Lecture session with Mr. Shriyans Bhandari, Co-Founder, GreenSole brought to an end the proceedings of Day 4 of the ABS PGDM Orientation Program 2021.
