On 21st January 2025, the Synergise TogetHR Club at Asian Business School (ABS) organized an innovative and engaging activity titled “Paper Couture: Walking the Newsbeat.” The event was aimed at fostering key skills such as teamwork, leadership qualities, creativity, problem-solving, communication, and time management. The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation from 253 students of PGDM 1st year, who collaborated in teams to create wearable outfits using limited resources like newspapers. This activity was designed to foster essential skills such as teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and task delegation while exploring theme-based design concepts.
Thirteen teams of twenty members were formed from the PGDM program’s participants. Newspapers, scissors, and adhesive were furnished to each team. The teams brainstormed, designed, and produced a long wearable costume that was inspired by a selected theme within two hours. Participants were encouraged to integrate learning with creativity by teams that incorporated HR-related elements into their planning and designs. The event was a reflection of the real-world professional challenges that require collaboration and resource management to achieve success.
The participants showcased their designs in a runway-style rampway at the end of the activity. The creations were evaluated based on criteria such as creativity & innovation, teamwork & collaboration, time management & execution, theme representation and paper couture walk. This process allowed students to enhance their ability to communicate their ideas effectively while working cohesively in a team environment.
