Importance Of Internships For MBA/PGDM Students Is Quite Unequivocal

In several ways, applying for an MBA/PGDM program at any of the top B-schools in Delhi NCR or elsewhere in India is a life-changing decision. Nevertheless, undertaking an internship is considered to be one of the main practical aspects for management students. This is because honing the aspiring students’ skills and boosting their qualifications is certainly a step towards improving their chances to become successful.

Why exactly should management students pursue Internships during their MBA/PGDM?

  • Industry Exposure: Theories learned in the classroom will not reap benefits for the management students until they learn the practical application of them in real time situations. Thus, the internship provides a hands-on experience of how industry functions in real. It is here that the students learn by doing, which enables them to understand & apply the business concepts in the real world.
  • Preview of Role & Responsibilities: There is no doubt that internship is an excellent platform to gain the relevant experience, skills, and knowledge of a specific industry or field. It also gives a glimpse of roles & responsibilities students would be dealing with if they choose to work for that industry.
  • Enhances Students’ Resume: Whether a student is a fresher or not, internships help them to enhance their Resume. They can always mention the projects they were deployed at during the tenure of their internship.
  • Strategic Networking: Being an intern exposes students to excellent professional connections inside and outside the company. Hence it is advised that students should not make connections only because they can help them to land the desired job profile, but they should also look for contacts that can act as mentors or coaches throughout their career.
  • Convert Internship into a Pre-Placement Offer: During the internship, employers get a chance to see aspiring management students in action. Several companies look to their own interns as the best potential candidates for full-time positions available within their organizations.  Thus, though an MBA/PGDM internship will not guarantee students a full-time position, however, if they performed well, there is a good chance the company will extend them a job offer once they graduate.

In conclusion, it can be said that internships provide aspiring management students a great opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals in their respective fields and to develop knowledge, competencies, and experience related directly to their career goals. And, if managed tactfully, internships will surely land the aspiring management students new contacts, mentors, and references.
