Noida, 24th January 2020: Noida-based Asian Education Group (AEG) held its much-awaited 8th edition of the mega annual inter-college sports event – ATHLEEMA 2020 – on 21st-23rd January 2020 at the imposing Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola, New Delhi with great pomp and splendour, much accentuated by the glorious presence of the Indian football legend, Mr. Baichung Bhutia as the chief guest for the occasion.
Like in earlier years, the competition was open to all similar colleges & institutes located in the Delhi NCR region. In all, 50 top colleges of the metropolitan capital city enthusiastically participated in this sports spectacle. As far as Asian Education Group was concerned, all its three constituent group colleges – namely, Asian Business School (ABS), Asian School of Business (ASB) & Asian Law College (ALC) – actively participated in this high-pitched athletics’ meet.
The inaugural function on 21st January 2020 began with the auspicious torch-lighting ceremony, ignited by the chief guest, Mr. Baichung Bhutia; Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President-AEG; and Directors AEG, namely Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava, Mr. Saurabh Sharma and Mr. Gurdeep Singh Raina. After this, the distinguished dignitaries on the dais inspired the participating students with some zestful speeches.
While Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava (Director, AEG) inspired the participants with his encouraging welcome speech, Mr. Saurabh Sharma (Director, AEG) motivated the participants to inculcate sportsmanship not just on the ground but also in their personal lives. Then, Mr. Gurdeep Singh Raina (Director, AEG) motivated the participants and evoked the students to be true and honest in their actions.
Addressing the energetic young audience, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President-AEG, a highly acclaimed international media personality, charged the ambience of the occasion with his customary inspiring speech delivered in his inimitable style laced with the rendition of a few motivational couplets. Talking about the ever-increasing participation of colleges and students in AEG’s Annual Sports Meet, ATHLEELMA, Dr. Marwah disclosed his “wish to make it a truly National Event in the coming years.”
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Mr. Baichung Bhutia said that it felt especially great to be at AEG’s ATHLEELMA 2020 because he had never attended a college or school annual sports meet where thousands of students from 50 colleges had come to participate in the event. Encouraging the students for their enthusiastic presence, Mr. Bhutia also lamented that “students show an active interest in sports & games while at school and they normally stop playing once they complete their schooling, which is not the way it should be and students should not stop playing but they should pursue their interests and skills and continue to take their games to the next level of achievement.”
Games in which competition was held included Cricket, Volleyball (Boys/ Girls), Football, Table Tennis, Tug-O-War, Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Athletics (Shot Put & 100m Race), Kabaddi (Boys/ Girls), Kho-Kho (Boys/ Girls), and Pool.
After two days of intense competitions at Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola, New Delhi on 21st & 22nd January 2020, the grand Valedictory function for ATHLEEMA-Season 8 was held on Thursday, 23rd January 2020 at the AEG campus in Noida to felicitate students for their exemplary performance and zealous participation at the games. The distinguished guests for the function included Dr. Suniel Parashar, well-known Film Producer & Film Director and Mr. Ram Avatar, President-Football Federation of India.
Prizes were given away by these distinguished guests along with AEG President, Dr. Sandeep Marwah; the Directors of AEG, namely Dr. Lalitya Vir Srivastava, Mr. Saurabh Sharma and Mr. Gurdeep Singh Raina; and Dr. Saleem Akhtar, Director-ALC – who aptly complimented and applauded the winners.
The “Golden Boot Award” in Football went to Roshan Singh of PGDAV and the “Man of the Series Award” in Cricket went to Karamvir, also from PGDAV. The ‘AEG Sportsperson of the Year Award’ for boys and girls went to Leesan Ul Nabi of ASB in the male category and Nilu Prasad of ABS in the female category.
A very important highlight of the valedictory function was the Poster Release of the “FIT INDIA” initiative by the Prime Minister of India, where all three constituent group colleges of AEG – viz. ABS, ASB & ALC – are proactively active in this program.
The valedictory function came to a close with the customary ‘Vote of Thanks’ delivered by Mr. Ravi Sharma, Dean-CRC, Asian Business School.
All in all, the 8th annual sports meet ATHLEEMA 2020 turned out to be a huge success and left behind a trail of great memories and achievements for students to cherish for a long time.
