“How to Choose the Best Career” is a question that bothers all of us at least at some point in our lives. In fact, choosing a career or changing one’s career, is one of the most important steps in the life of an average working human being. This question is generally born in the form of, “Which stream should I choose?”, and it grows and develops into the question, “What is the best career for me?”

A lot of students are often confused about their ideal career choice, and their friends and relatives don’t make it easier for them either. At times the pressure of society is so much, that students swallow their personal ambitions and do what others want them to do. Almost similar things happen years later, when they are stuck in a 9 to 5 job that they don’t like, in an environment that doesn’t suit them, and salary that doesn’t satisfy them.

The best way to resolve this dilemma is to take recourse to the four P’s techniques of self-assessment, namely: Preference, Personality, Passion, and Principles.

Preference:

Different job profiles have different requirements and one’s ideal job is the job that matches their personal skill set and preference. Asking oneself questions will definitely bring one a step closer to finding their ideal job career.

Personality:

The personality section focuses on the kind of nature one has, the kind of person he/she is, etc. This will help them focus on the jobs that suit their specific personality traits. Their specific gifts and acquired skills will help them in figuring out the job best suitable for them.

Passion:

Come to think of it, we all have “superpowers” that we can surely monetize. Finding a job that suits our personal passions, dreams and ambitions aren’t as hard as it seems. Working in a field, or a job we personally care about is the best career option we can choose since it means working in a field that doesn’t feel like work.

Principles:

One’s principles include their beliefs, ideas and certain boundaries that are dear to them as a person. Their work values or principles are job-related beliefs that they value. Figuring out one’s set of personal beliefs and ideals is a great way of finding a career choice that satisfies them for their entire working life.

In conclusion, it can be said that once when one has arrived at a list of their passions, principles, preferences and personality type, they should readily confirm them and thereby win over the dilemma of “How to Choose the Best Career”.
