“The Oxford Odyssey” – The ABS PGDM Global Study Program

As mentioned in earlier posts on ABS Blog, the ABS PGDM is meant to expose you to international context in terms of teaching pedagogy, industry visits and diverse cultural immersion. To augment the cross-cultural learning experience of the PGDM program, Asian Business School organizes an international study trip to Oxford, UK, for all its students every year. This comes as a part of ABS PGDM curriculum.

Also, in keeping with the ABS PGDM course curriculum mandate, our PGDM students earn an Executive Diploma in International Business at the completion of their study trip to Oxford Business College, Oxford, London. This international diploma is offered in conjunction with the other diplomas. The diploma prescribes a comparative analysis, in various business quarters, between India and UK, for which it is imperative that students travel to Oxford for empirical study. The fast-paced academic tour for the students also serves the objective of comprehending a foreign curriculum and pedagogy as it accords them a rare opportunity to experience business and culture first-hand through cultural excursions and lectures. The study tour is ingeniously designed to bring international exposure to the students with an academic feel. For the students of ABS this study tour is often the most unforgettable experience of their lives.

The tour includes several days of a survey in Oxford for data collection, series of lectures at the Oxford Business College, presentations and networking opportunities with faculty and students. During their stay at Oxford, the students explore the historic town, well known worldwide as the home of the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Colleges like Baliol, Trinity, Christ Church are also exhaustively explored. The Bodleian Library, Radcliffe Camera, buildings from the late Saxon period speak to them of the architectural prowess of days gone by. Landmark tourist attractions like the Westminster Abbey, the Parliament House, Big Ben, London Eye, Tower of London, Madame Tussauds, the Royal Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, historic Hyde Park,  the River Thames-and the imposing London Bridge hold them in awe and transport them to another time. The fashionable Oxford Street offers a paradisiacal shopping experience for the young students!

An awesome exposure and an insightful and eye-opening experience from an altogether different culture.

The prospect of taking up an international role in a foreign country is quite encouraging after the PGDM; global brands are sought after for this very reason. Prior experience of dealing with international diversity makes recruiters more receptive to a profile. And, ABS PGDM program provides the PGDM students an edge over the others.

An international exposure of this kind not only expands the vision, but also augments the personality of management students. The discernment is all about a wide variety of people, wonderful places, different mannerisms and opportunities to broaden one’s horizons.

ABS is favorably disposed to give all its management students this matchless experience to savor for years to come and draw from it, the essential traits for working in a global environment.
