A presentation is a means of communication which can be adapted to various speaking situations, such as talking to a group, addressing a meeting or briefing a team. To be effective, step-by-step preparation and the method and means of presenting the information should be carefully considered.

Presenting information clearly and effectively is a key skill to get your message or opinion across and, today, presentation skills are required in almost every field. Delivering an inspirational or captivating presentation requires a lot of preparation and work

The PGDM 2013-15 batch was required to present their projects to the faculty members at Oxford Business College and the zeal and enthusiasm with which they presented their projects rightfully earned them their Diploma in International Business. Mentioned below are few techniques they utilized to ensure that their presentation was successful:

  • Preparation: It is imperative to be prepared before presenting anything to an audience. One needs to ensure that a substantial amount of time is spent in practising the content delivery before the final presentation.
  • Use examples and anecdotes: Instead of using long drawn terms and theories, use examples and narrate anecdotes and derive the meaning or the understanding from them. This encourages audience interaction and helps you relate to your audience. This requires preparation as you would need to know who your audience is.
  • Be calm and composed: To be calm and composed, you need to be prepared. It is imperative to know your content. Without content and knowledge, you cannot deliver an effective presentation.
  • Plan your delivery: Plan how you will stand and what gestures and expressions you will use during the presentation. This requires the study of the presentation you have prepared. Sometimes, effective presentation delivery may not even require a PPT running on the projector.
  • Use humour only when required: You are not a stand up comedian. Don’t act like one during a presentation. Use humour naturally. However, don’t make fun of anyone in the audience. They make not take it in the same spirit.
  • Be organised: Organise the content of your presentation. Organise your thoughts. The delivery should always be well structured. You should know exactly what you want to say and the order in which you want to say it. Clarity of ideas and good organisation should result in a lively, logical and compelling message.

Kudos to all the students who gave an energetic presentation! We are proud of you. We wish you all the best for all future endeavours.
