Q1: To begin with, please tell us how does it feel to connect with your alma meter after around a decade.
It is a very pertinent and beautiful question because it allows me to rekindle my memories from the past. To be honest, my coming back to this place seems to come back to my kind of Ayodhya. The reason being this is place where I was nourished and crafted. The teachers here actually protected me from any possibility of going haywire in my career. It is a very special feeling and something which is difficult to be narrated through words.
Q2: At present, you are working as a psychologist at Vimhans Nayati Super Speciality Hospital. Meanwhile you are also doing PhD in suicide management. How did this transition happen?
Yes, this is an extraordinary transition that happened in my life. I worked for around five years in different companies like Bajaj Capital and HCL. In my initial years, I led my life as per the philosophy that I will be in HR, earn good salary and enjoy my life. And for the fact, I did achieve all this. I transformed from being an HR generalist to HR developer and then I created an HR wellness cell at my company. later I was shifted to grievance department. It happened so that one of our employees who was very active and bright in his first year, drastically changed in his behavior and conduct and I started receiving his complaints on regular basis. I quite of studied his case and while doing so, one day I received the news that he has committed suicide by jumping from this building. This incident shook me to the core and I was in a very different zone for quite a long period of time. After noticing this, my mother only suggested me that if this incident has affected you very much, though you are not accountable for it, why don’t you take a decision then and start helping people who might be struggling with such issues. That was how this transition started.
Q3: It is a proud moment for ABS as well that you got awarded with Bharat Vibhushan recently. How did it feel to receive this prestigious award from the speaker of Delhi Vidhan Sabha? What all contributions do you feel played the major role in achieving this milestone.
I would like to keep it short. It is only and only devotion. The devotion towards your work is the only thing that will take you to new heights. I reminds me of one of the incidents at my company where I was working. It happened so that once there was a massive earthquake and we all started vacating the building. In all of this chaos, we later on realized that our manger had not left the building. When we came back, then we got to know that she totally oblivious of the fact that an earthquake had just happened, she was this devoted towards her work. That day I felt that how it is to actually be engrossed in your work and don’t even feel what is happening around you. It is only with this sort of devotion that you can do extraordinary things in life. There is no short cut method for success.
Q4: You are working in the field of suicide management; we would love to know from you about this topic. How should one maintain a positive approach towards life, how to get rid of negative thoughts and what all activities, suggestions would you like to offer for better quality of life.
The first and fundamental thing which I would suggest is that kindly segregate things. It is very important to prioritize tasks in life. Failing so, we feel frustrated as we are not able to cater to multiple things. Secondly I would like to mention that it was in this college only that one of our faculty members taught us a very useful mantra of ERRC wherein E means eliminating your doubt, R means reducing the risk, another R stands for raising the bar of your qualifications and C means create, what you can create for your life, the company you work for or for other people.
Q5: Before taking this path in your career, you also worked with Rainbow Brand solutions as an HR manager. How was the experience there?
It was a great experience there as well. I kind of evaluated myself that what different and new things I can bring into the system. I focused a lot on employee engagements and also ensured that proper segregation is done as per speculations. People with different specializations need to master on different aspects, like finance people require good problem solving skills while as marketing people need to have good communication and convincing skills. I ensured that people are getting trained as per their specializations.
